Welcome Invitation
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I am pleased to invite you to attend the 15th Annual Meeting of the European Council for Cardiovascular Research (ECCR), which will be held from 8th - 10th October 2010 in La Colle sur Loup, Nice, France.

The ECCR was established in 1997 to create within Europe a unique annual forum for clinical and non-clinical researchers in the important field of blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. The aim of these meetings is to present novel areas of research and to foster the translation of new scientific findings into clinical practice. We particularly encourage the active participation of young researchers in these meetings.

The programme will include state-of-the-art lectures from leading researchers, oral and poster presentations, workshops and hot topic sessions. Considerable time is set aside for critical discussion and posters. The conference is thus intended as a forum for critical analysis of the latest research results.

The programme will be decided on the basis of the topics of the submitted abstracts, but presentations and general subjects will include:

• Atherosclerosis and vascular biology
• Autonomic function and cardiovascular
  disease
• Cardiac biology
• Cardiovascular genetics
• Endothelial function and progenitor cells
• Diabetes, metabolic syndrome and
  cardiovascular disease

• Hypertension
• Novel therapeutic targets in
  cardiovascular disease
• Renal dysfunction and chronic
  kidney disease
• Renin-angiotensin system
• Signal transduction and receptors
• Thrombosis

Abstracts will be invited for this meeting from March 2010 (deadline: Friday 4th June 2010). A number of scholarships will be available for young investigators (under 40 years of age) whose abstracts are accepted for the meeting. Those eligible to compete for these scholarships, which will cover the costs of registration and accommodation, should indicate this on the abstract form. As in previous years, prizes will be given for the best oral and poster communications.

We look forward to your active contribution to what we hope will again be an exciting meeting in support of cardiovascular research in Europe.

Alun Hughes
President
