On behalf of the Executive Committee, we are pleased to
invite you to attend the 17th Annual Meeting of the European
Council for Cardiovascular Research (ECCR), which will be held
from Friday 11th - Sunday 13th October 2013 in La Colle sur Loup,
The ECCR was formally established in 1997 to create within Europe a
unique forum for active clinical and non-clinical researchers in the
important field of blood pressure and cardiovascular research. The annual
conference covers a broad range of subjects, including genetics of
cardiovascular diseases, vascular biology, cardiac and renal aspects as well as
modern strategies of prevention and therapy for cardiovascular disease.
For the second time, we are holding a Special Course,
which this year will be on the subject of Renal Denervation.
Renal denervation is a novel approach for the treatment of resistant
hypertension based on the idea that ablation of the renal sympathetic
nerves with a radiofrequency-emitting catheter causing interruption of
renal sympathetic in and outflow, will result in a reduction of
adrenergic effects on the kidney (such as renin secretion) but also in lowering
the level of activation of the entire sympathetic nervous system. The course will
elucidate the theoretical concept of renal denervation and provide an overview of
recent experimental and clinical studies. The participants will learn how renal
denervation can be performed experimentally in rodents or in a clinical setting.
Various devices will be presented.
Please indicate when you register if you
want to attend the Special Course.

Longer life expectancy has resulted in an increasingly elderly population in which cardiovascular and metabolic diseases are more prevalent.
Recently elected President Associate Professor Ulrike Muscha Steckelings and past-President Professor Michael Mulvany elaborate on the ECCR’s
position in the global fight against this significant and growing problem. Please click here
